Anschutz Medical Campus and

Fitzsimons Life Science District

Aurora’s Fitzsimons is a key component of Colorado’s bioscience industry. The Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District redevelopment project consists of one square mile undergoing a $5.2 billion transformation at the intersection of I-225 and Colfax Avenue. 
The site, which currently employees more than 21,000, is the home the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus; the University of Colorado Hospital; Children’s Hospital Colorado; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital that is currently under construction; and several other centers for health care, biomedical research and workforce development. The site contributes $4.5 billion annually to the state.
According to a study done by Sammons/Dutton LLC, the Anschutz/Fitzsimons site at full development will consist of approximately 18.5 million square feet, employ nearly 44,600 people (direct jobs) and contribute $4.3 billion in personal annual income and generate $11.5 billion in total economic output annually. 


University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the only comprehensive academic health sciences center in Colorado, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region and one of the newest education, research and patient care facilities in the world.
On a campus designed to enhance collaboration and interprofessional education, students learn alongside faculty members who also provide expert clinical care to patients and make meaningful medical discoveries.
Schools and colleges include: School of Dental Medicine; School of Medicine; College of Nursing; Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Colorado School of Public Health; and Graduate School.
The Anschutz Medical Campus stands as a model across the nation for a successful redevelopment of a decommissioned military base.  The campus consists of 10 million square feet, contributes $2.4 billion to the economy and serves more than 1.5 million patients annually.

University of Colorado Hospital

Top medical professionals, superior medicine and progressive change make University of Colorado Hospital one of the leading hospitals in the nation.  The University of Colorado Hospital includes primary care and specialty clinics around the state, as well as the central facilities at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
The University of Colorado Hosptial recently completed its $400 million expansion in 2013 that added 144 beds to its existing 407 beds with space to add another 120-144 in the future.  The expansion created 1,400 new jobs.
The University of Colorado Hospital facilities include:
  1. The Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion, consisting of two towers.
  2. The Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion, home to many of the hospital’s clinics.
  3. The Anschutz Cancer Pavilion, home to the renowned clinical services of the University of Colorado Cancer Center (with outcomes that far exceed state averages).
  4. The Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute, home to University Laser Vision and what Ophthalmology Times recently named one of the 10 best ophthalmology practices in the country.
  5. The Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR), the region’s premier residential and treatment center for adults and families afflicted with alcoholism, gambling and substance dependencies.

Children's Hospital Colorado

Children’s Hospital Colorado has defined and delivered pediatric health care excellence for more than 100 years. Founded in 1908, Children’s Hospital Colorado is a leading pediatric network entirely devoted to the health and well-being of children. Continually acknowledged as one of the nation’s top ten Best Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and Parents magazine, Children’s Hospital Colorado is known for both its nationally and internationally recognized medical, research, education and advocacy programs, as well as comprehensive everyday care for kids throughout Colorado and surrounding states.
In 2012, the hospital opened its $230 million, 10-story, 355,000 square-foot East Tower to meet growing demand for services. The expansion created 500 new jobs to the hospital’s workforce – Aurora’s largest private employer with 5,090 employees.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Construction is underway of the $800 million, 1.2 million square-foot VA Medical Center.  The new medical center will include inpatient tertiary care and ambulatory care, a 30-bed spinal cord injury/disorder center, a 30-bed nursing home community living center, a research building, and parking structures.  The medical center will employ approximately 2,000 people and is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

Fitzsimons Village

Fitzsimons Village, developed by the Corporex Colorado, is a 32-acre mixed-use development consisting of office/medical buildings, hotels and retail amenities to the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District.  
Phase 1 of the development consists of Fitzsimons 100 - a six story, 150,000 square foot class A office building with 16,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, parking structure, a 153-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott and a FirstBank branch.  Phase 2 consists of Fitzsimons 200 - a seven story, 196,000 square foot class A office building with 12,000 square feet of retail space.  
Corporex Colorado recently announced a new $90 million 245-room, Hyatt full-service hotel and 30,000 square foot conference center that will be built at the site.  The project will include a multilevel parking garage and is expected to be completed in approximately by 2016. Additionally, there are 20 acres available for further development of office, medical, research, retail and residential projects.


Fitzsimons Life Science District

Additional development includes commercial, hospitality, retail, and residential development.  Forest City has partnered with the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority to develop the 184-acre site.
