Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District

Aurora’s Fitzsimons is a key component of Colorado's bioscience industry. The Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District redevelopment project consists of one square mile undergoing a $5.2 billion transformation at the northwest corner of I-225 and Colfax Avenue. 
 
The site, which currently employees more than 21,000, is the home of  the University of Colorado Denver health sciences operations, the University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, the new Veterans Administration Hospital, and several other centers for health care, biomedical research and workforce development.  
 
This project contributed $3.5 billion dollars to the state’s economy in 2008 with $1.4 billion generated in personal income.  By 2013, the site will contribute $4.5 billion annually to Colorado’s economy and generate $1.8 billion in personal income.  At build-out, the Anschutz/Fitzsimons site will consist of approximately 18.5 million square feet and employ 44,569 people (direct jobs, no multiplier). 
 

Anschutz Medical Campus

This cutting-edge health care campus fosters collaboration among students, researchers and clinicians. Campus architecture and state-of-the-art technology bridge education and research with two world-class hospitals: University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado. The campus is home to the schools and colleges of Medicine (offering MD, Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy degrees), Nursing, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health.  The campus serves more than 500,000 patients annually.
 
The Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is the world's only completely new education, research and patient care facility and the largest academic health center between Chicago and the West Coast, north of Texas.

University of Colorado Hospital

Children's Hospital Colorado

Children's Hospital Colorado has been ranked for more than a decade as one of the best children’s hospitals nationally in U.S. News & World Report, and as the consistent choice eight years in a row by area physicians for the care of their loved ones. Founded in 1908, Children's Colorado is a private, not-for-profit pediatric health-care network dedicated 100 percent to caring for kids. With 1,130 pediatric specialists and more than 2,300 full-time employees, Children’s Colorado is home to a number of nationally and internationally recognized medical programs.  Children’s Hospital Colorado is the only pediatric Trauma Level I facility in the state.  Children’s Hospital Colorado is currenlty undergoing an expansion project that includes a new $228 million, 10-story, 350,000 square-foot tower with an anticipated operational date of late 2012 that will create 500 new jobs. www.childrenscolorado.org
 

Veterans Administration Medical Center

Construction is underway of the $580 million, 1.1 million square-foot replacement Denver VA Medical Center.  The new 182-bed medical center will include inpatient tertiary care and ambulatory care, a 30-bed spinal cord injury/disorder center, a 30-bed nursing home community living center, a research building, and parking structures.  The medical center will employ approximately 2,000 people and serve approximately 82,700 veterans.  More than 6,300 jobs will be created during the construction of the medical center.  The completion date of the hospital is scheduled for early 2015.  www.denver.va.gov
 

Fitzsimons Village

Fitzsimons Village, developed by the Corporex Family of Companies, is a 32-acre mixed-use development consisting of class A office/medical buildings, hotels and retail amenities to the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District.  Fitzsimons Village connects to the Anschutz Medical Campus via an elevated pedestrian walkway over Colfax Avenue.
 
Phase 1 of the development consists of Fitzsimons 100 - a six story, 150,000 square foot class A office building with 16,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, parking structure, a 153-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott and a FirstBank branch.  Children’s Hospital Colorado has leased Fitzsimons 100 for its administration and IT departments.
 
Phase 2, consists of Fitzsimons 200 - a seven story, 196,000 square foot class A office building with 12,000 square feet of retail space.  Preleasing opportunities now exist for this building.

Fitzsimons Life Science District

Additional development includes commercial, hospitality, retail, and residential development.  Forest City has partnered with the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority to develop the 184-acre site.  www.fitzscience.com
