The Aurora Economic Development Council has announced that Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer is this year’s recipient of the prestigious A-List Leadership Award. The announcement came at the organization’s A-List 2011 Presented by Gaylord Entertainment and LNR Properties, LLC. Legendary tennis champion Andre Agassi served as the keynote speaker for this year’s event. The A-List Leadership Award is annually given to a person whose leadership best enhances the state’s economy, demonstrates exemplary standards of ethics, and embraces business and government collaboration. Wendy Mitchell, President and CEO of the Aurora Economic Development Council, and Karl Knapp, President of CVL Consultants and 2011 Chair of the Aurora Economic Development Council, presented the award to Mayor Tauer. Tauer was elected mayor in 2003 after serving as an at-large member of the Aurora City Council since 1997. During his tenure, Tauer has focused on strong economic development and job creation ensuring Aurora is a full service city where one can grow up, raise a family and retire. Tauer has also made it a priority to seek out opportunities to serve as a leader in regional cooperation and partnerships and has been involved in shaping the city’s water policies and strategic planning efforts. During the A-List event, Mitchell touted the successes of the Aurora Economic Development Council in 2011. She announced that A-List was once again a sold-out event with over 1,500 in attendance. Mitchell further added, “The most important measure of the Aurora Economic Development Council’s success is primary job creation and in the first nine months of 2011 we created or retained more than 1,300 primary jobs and $400 million in capital investment, exceeding our annual goal.” A-List is one of the most anticipated events in the state, bringing together 1,500 business and political leaders to celebrate the economic success of Colorado. Past A-List Award recipients include: Former President William Jefferson Clinton, the Colorado Congressional Delegation, Former Colorado Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton, and Tom Clark, Executive Vice President of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation. |
