Aurora hosts a number of local festivals, museums, performing arts and attractions. The Aurora History Museum has a number of exhibits on display portraying the rich history of the area. The city has an extensive network of public art adding to the character and diverse culture of the community. And located in the Original Arts District on East Colfax Avenue is the Aurora Fox Arts Center, a historic landmark and performing arts center that showcases comedies, dramas and musicals throughout the year.
The larger metropolitan area features live theater, Colorado Ballet, Colorado Symphony, and Opera Colorado at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The Denver Performing Arts Complex has 11 performance venues ranging in size from 200 to 2,830 seats, ranking it as the second largest arts complex in the nation, after the Lincoln Center. Recently, the Ellie Caulkins Opera House opened its doors in October 2005 seating 2,268.
