Benefits of Investment

Why Aurora?

Aurora is where the action is.  Our strengths are numerous: abundant land for development, a pro-business environment, and opportunities for solid industry growth especially aerospace and defense, bioscience, renewable energy and transportation logistics.  We are home to the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Fitzsimons Life Science District; Buckley Air Force Base; Front Range Airport; SolarTAC, the nation’s largest solar energy research park; the I-225, I-70 and E-470 corridors; and we are adjacent to Denver International Airport.  Many master-planned projects are within our borders such as Fitzsimons Village, Gateway Park, Majestic Commercenter, High Point, Porteos, EastGate, ProLogis Park 70, and several transportation oriented development projects.  The I-225 light rail line construction is in full swing and will be completed by 2016. Aurora is leading the state in new economic development opportunities.

What is the Aurora Economic Development Council?

A partnership between business and government for more than three decades, the Aurora Economic Development Council is a leader for Colorado’s most promising growth industries – including aerospace and defense, bioscience, renewable energy and transportation logistics – positioning Aurora and Colorado to win new jobs in these sectors in an intensely competitive global market. We create new primary jobs through innovative deal creation, strategic partnerships, and by advocating for economically sustainable public policy. We have the economic resources and critical mass to compete nationally for the world’s top companies. Our strategic vision is to become the premier business address in the West.

Our Initiatives

Economic Development and Primary Growth

We understand time is money. We work with our investors and senior city staff in the planning and development departments to ensure projects are streamlined through the development review process and get developments to market faster. We are the liaison between our board members and local government. Incentives are also important. In a state where incentive programs are few, we put together creative incentive packages to be more competitive. We have done our research and know our product and we are ready for future development. Primary businesses come to us to when they want to relocate or expand in Aurora. We work confidentially with our business prospects to make deals happen and create new project opportunities. We make the connection.

Public Policy Influence

Nobody has better relationships with decision makers. We work everyday with City Council and state and federal legislators in forming economically sustainable public policy. Some of our most notable successes include the funding of the educational buildings at the Anschutz Medical Campus at Fitzsimons, business tax exemptions and eliminations, and advocacy for new missions at Buckley Air Force Base. Continued efforts include securing federal funding for a new interchange at I-225 and Colfax Avenue. Our annual business mission to Washington, D.C. has been recognized as one of the best organized and most effective missions of its kind to advocate for programs beneficial to our business community and the state’s economy. Additionally, we have contracted with a well-recognized Washington, D.C. lobbying firm to work with the Colorado Congressional Delegation.

Marketing Impact

A large portion of our budget is used for marketing. In addition to hosting a data-rich, interactive website, staff engages in events, presentations, sponsorships and advertisements that highlight Aurora and all of our board members. Our public relations efforts have secured more than $1 million in advertising equivalency. We created the prestigious A-List event that has put Aurora in the media spotlight. A-List has become the largest business event of its kind bringing together 1,500 business and political leaders to celebrate the economic successes of the region.

In the company of leaders

We have brought together the decision makers. Our board members are CEO-level developers, general contractors, bankers, attorneys, consultants, home builders, engineers, architects and representatives of the aerospace and bioscience industries and educational and hospital institutions. Political leadership from the city of Aurora, Adams County and Arapahoe County also serve on our board. We limit our board membership to 100 leaders from the region so we may provide the best possible return on investment. We offer a valuable service in a challenging market for $10,000 annually. We strategically recruit leaders that will mutually benefit the Aurora Economic Development Council and new board members in future business endeavors.
